In today’s economy the idea of working in the same company from the moment you get out of school and until you retire is a bit of an utopia. Even if that is somehow possible for you, studies show that employees who stay in companies longer than two years get paid 50% less over their lifetime.

I am a big fan of the concept that LinkedIn‘s co-founder, Reid Hoffman, proposes in his book „The Alliance” of a TOUR OF DUTY which is a commitment between the employer and the employee to work together in order to finish a specific mission that has a finite duration (usually 2 years).
